NCCES has been hosting the Priority Program meetings since June. PRIORITY Community Initiative is a group of enthusiastic, energetic NCCES & FHS students with a desire to make a difference, to improve the environment and help reduce obesity risk in their communities. PRIORITY is a multidisciplinary program at Tufts Medical Center that is partnering with Fitchburg to involve youth in solutions to the obesity epidemic.
In the PRIORITY Community Initiative, youth are trained to be advocates for environmental, policy and systems changes that help young people lead healthy and productive lives. In this program, young people participate in an 8-week knowledge and skill-building, group-based curriculum and then spend an additional 16 weeks designing and implementing an advocacy project to improve their local environment in ways which decrease obesity risk.
This program is lead by Angel Vega, Site Coordinator, Tufts Medical Center. |
